Regional Electricity Price VariationTorse Limited is celebrating the end of its very successful 2015 summer internship programme. This is an experimental scheme, run in conjunction with the University of Nottingham, to encourage students to look graduate employment opportunities in the East Midlands.Torse is one of the UK’s leading independent energy brokerage and consultancy organisations, having placed over 100,000 business energy contracts since 1994 and providing hundreds of ongoing clients with support for their billing, payments and contract obligations.

Recently, the range of services that Torse provides for its clients has grown to include energy auditing. The interns, Aiste Rutkauskaite and Kathryn O’Neill, are both recent graduates of the University of Nottingham. They were brought on board to help bring fresh ideas to this expansion and to receive grounding in how the energy industry works and working within an SME. According to Aiste this has provided “valuable experience which will help in all my future endeavours, no matter which career path I decide to take”.

As well as two enthusiastic interns, Torse now also has a fully trained level 4 assessor and ESOS lead assessor as part of the team. This means that Torse is now fully equipped to help tackle the shortfall between businesses that must comply with ESOS and assessors that are qualified to carry out the level of audit required.

With the help of their new colleagues, Aiste and Kathryn have created a presentation pack in their 12 week placement with Torse Limited. This will be used to inform their colleagues and new clients about the key information that everyone should know about ESOS. Kathryn explains: “We have taken the 87 page government document about ESOS and turned it into easy to absorb formats. We have emphasised the main facts; for example, that it is a legal requirement for all large businesses, that that deadline for compliance is the 5th December 2015, and that fines for not submitting your ESOS report can set your business back up to £50,000”.

The compliance deadline is fast approaching, and yet there are still many eligible businesses that are not aware that they must complete this energy audit or face fines it is a project to make the new legislation understandable and accessible for everyone within the Torse organisation, for current clients and any new businesses that may wish to use Torse Limited to help them comply.
